is pleased to Announce...
Dr. Matthew Cooper as AFDT's President
Matthew Cooper, MD, is the director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation at the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute (MGTI) and a Professor of Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Cooper is board certified in general surgery and accredited by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He was also recently elected president of the UNOS Board of Directors.
Dr. Cooper chose the specialty of transplant surgery because it is tremendously rewarding and life-changing for his patients. In fact, he says that he has the "best job in the world." He appreciates the environment of excellence at the Medstar Georgetown Transplant Institute, the focus on the care of the patient and the high expectations and commitment among colleagues. His goal is to meet the needs of patients at all stages of transplantation, including post-surgical care. He aims to provide a positive and welcoming overall experience and excellent long-term outcomes.
Dr. Cooper believes that transplantation allows him to not only make a real connection in his patients' and their family's lives, but also to make a significant improvement in his patients' length and quality of life.
Dr. Cooper is a sought-after speaker for not only AFDT’s living donation and transplant quality conferences, but by transplant organizations around the world and attendees say it best as written below.
Honoring Donation Healthcare Heroes
The 2021 Donate Life floral sculpture, "Community of Life,' will highlight the arduous work of donation healthcare professionals who quietly, yet diligently, work every single day to make the gift of life possible. This year's Donation Healthcare Heroes have gone above and beyond their call of duty to make donation and transplantation possible during the current COVID-19 pandemic. These Donation Healthcare Heroes will be recognized with special plaques on the 2021 Donate Life floral sculpture.
