Evaluation of Transplantation outcomes of donation after circulatory death allografts & improving their utilization
July 18, 2024- 2:00 PM (EASTERN TIME)
Speaker:
Dr. Amit Nair
University of Rochester
With an increasing divide between patients needing organ transplantation and the availability of suitable allografts, the transplantation community is always seeking avenues to increase organ donation and decrease allograft discards.
Donation After Circulatory Death (DCD) organs have historically been considered less optimal than their brain-dead counterparts and their utilization in the US has been comparatively low. However, this trend is encouragingly starting to change in recent years. This presentation aims to give an overview of DCD organ transplantation and its future directions, with an emphasis on abdominal solid organs.
Learning Objectives:
1.) Introduction to historical aspects of Donation After Circulatory Death (DCD) organ transplantation
2.) Assessment of outcomes of DCD organ transplantation
3.) Discussion on technical advancements permitting increased utilization of DCD allografts
